A Pathway to a Powerful Career: Lineman Scholarship Applications Open

Craighead Electric Cooperative announced today that applications are now open for its annual Lineman Scholarship, a program established to support local students pursuing a career in the electric utility industry. Each year, the cooperative awards one full scholarship to a deserving high-school senior within its service area who plans to enroll in the High Voltage Lineman Technology Program at Arkansas State University–Newport.

The scholarship covers 100 percent of the student’s tuition for the program. New for this year, Craighead Electric will also provide the required set of tools for the selected recipient — a significant financial burden for many students entering the field. By funding both tuition and tools, the cooperative aims to reduce barriers for students interested in high-demand technical careers.

Although the Lineman Scholarship does not guarantee employment with Craighead Electric, the recipient is guaranteed a paid internship with the cooperative upon completion of the program. This internship allows the student to gain hands-on experience, learn essential safety practices, and build foundational skills alongside experienced journeyman linemen.

“Our cooperative is committed to growing and supporting the next generation of lineworkers,” said Justin Etter, CEO of Craighead Electric Cooperative. “This scholarship is one of the ways we invest in our local communities and help strengthen the workforce that keeps rural Arkansas connected.”

The Lineman Scholarship program has helped several past recipients launch successful careers in the electric cooperative network, and Craighead Electric hopes to see continued interest from students who have a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a desire to serve their communities.

Local educators, counselors, and community members are encouraged to share this opportunity with students who may be interested in a career as an electric lineworker.
