Craighead Electric Cooperative Corporation is proud to announce the recipient of this year’s High Voltage Lineman Scholarship, Colton Rusco. This scholarship recognizes exceptional dedication and promise in the field of linework, and Colton Rusco exemplifies these qualities in abundance.
Colton Rusco, a senior at Brookland High School has demonstrated a profound passion for becoming a lineworker since a young age. In his essay submitted as part of the scholarship application process, he articulated his deep admiration for lineworkers and his desire to follow in their footsteps.
In his essay, Colton expressed, “Being a lineman is a difficult but rewarding career. I would like to be a lineworker because it is a career I have been in awe of for as long as I can remember. The hardworking men that go out every day to keep the power on have always drawn me in and inspired me to want to be like them.”
Colton further highlighted his qualities that make him a suitable candidate for this scholarship, citing his mechanical aptitude, strong work ethic, and unwavering determination to overcome challenges. His dedication to service and leadership is evident through his involvement in various extracurricular activities, including baseball, football, student council, Future Farmers of America (FFA), and vocational technical programs.
Throughout his high school journey, Colton has garnered several accolades, including the Outstanding Teammate Award in baseball, the Dream Team Award from him employer, and the position of Class President.

Rusco will attend Arkansas State University – Newport’s High Voltage Lineman Technology program for 10 months before beginning his internship at Craighead Electric.
